BVA506 Blog Sixteen

 Semester 2 Blog Sixteen

So here is my review for my class in BVA506 Research LED-Industry Practice for 2020.

What was something I liked/enjoyed about this class?
I quite enjoyed how when were planning for a project we had relatively free range of Ideas and topics to choose from and pick for ourselves. This was quite unique as we were permitted to discover different things and create different projects from one-another so we had a range of different things to admire and get interested in.

What did I find Difficult about this class?
Well, kind of the same as above. Although having free reign to pick whatever topic you want, within reason, if you needed help with your project but your tutor or people around you don't' know much or any about said topic, it makes it a bit more difficult to complete and attempt to solve problems.

What would I change if I were to re-do the year?
What I would probably try to do right from the beginning, is choose a topic I can follow through for the whole year in the class, as for some absurd reason I kept jumping between different things, which made it quite confusing for myself.

Overall 2020 has be a confusing and tough year for many, but I did have some good moments and made some stuff I can be proud of, which is a bit of a relief.

BVA503 Blog Fifteen

 Semester 2 Blog Fifteen

Well this is my Final Research class for 2020.

Latest progress so far, Think and Create is on Thursday and some awesome stuff has happened. The 2nd years who are running think and create allowed me to reprint my poster, in order to let it have a better look rather than the scrappy look it had. My frame was also found, which was a relief, and it is hanging in its place and now I am quite pleased with how it looks now. It genuinely looks like a clean poster and the original colors I wanted look far better now. I am quite pleased with the turnout now and I am actually pleased with something I have made, which has not happened much for me this year.

In class today we are just doing our blogs, and after this I will probably work on another classes assessment, but yeah, good fun. I have gone through my blogs, double checked the spelling and have submitted the right blog link, this time, and have got this rearing to go.

Well all that's left to say is what a year it has been, and thank you to my tutor Tracy for BVA503 Research for 2020.

BVA503 Blog Fourteen

 Semester 2 Blog Fourteen

How am I today, very tired...

Today we started class by talking about our project in the think and create area. So I had some small issues with my poster for think and create, unfortunately. What I had intended is having a singular A2 poster in a frame/case, but that Idea in general did not turn out so great. With the printing of the poster there was a mix up, most likely on my part, of the size of the poster and instead of a singular A2, it printed as two A3's, which did not go to plan. My frame also went missing so that did not go to plan either. What ended up happening is I printed the A2 picture on two separate pieces of paper, half on each. I then used my quite cruddy cutting skills to then turn my picture into a full sized A2. In the end I feel greatly disappointed in how my project turned out. Although the Digital version still looks quite neat and and it gave a me a very clear idea of when I publish my book, eventually, it will probably have a similar look.

Reflection:

How do I feel about my outcome?
Well the print out I am not entirely pleased with, but I am satisficed with the digital turn out.

What have I learnt from this?
Whenever handing something in for someone else to help you, e.g. printing, make sure you have the correct file and at the correct size or definition of detail.

If I could change one thing, what would it be?
I would probably want to try and print it out and make it into an actual book, so it is something physical I can have in a bookshelve, aswell as maybe have a better Idea of if it looks good on a book rather than a poster.

Semester 2 Blog Thirteen

What Is It?

How did I do it?

Why Did I do it?

These are the questions I need to ask myself for my artist statement. So today in class I am focusing on my artist statement for the exhibition in 4 weeks, Yikes. Lucky I'm only in a slight panic but I better get my ass into gear asap. so I guess here is a draft of my artist statement.

(e.g. there are meant to be my posters around this)

Hello, My name is Seth Nops and I designed the poster pieces you can see here.
These posters are meant to represent possible ideas for a future book cover in the current series I am writing called Heir to the King. I have always enjoyed fantasy stories and adventures and I have wanted to write a book myself so this year I finally began my goal. The first thing I had done for this is began planning and writing and then came up with the cover designs for people to see. You might see me floating around with a tally chart and pamphlets so your welcome to come up and help me decide on the look, aswell as a friendly chat and a free draft of the first two chapters.

I probally need to work on this a bit more but it is fine for my first draft.

BVA503 Blog Twelve

 Semester 2 Blog Twelve

Progress Review.

So today in class we started off with our tutor to reassess and re-evaluate our work so far. Personally I believe I am slightly behind from where I would like to be, but I am still on track for the due date. So far I have successfully completed all of my written work, besides a little touch up on the Author (AKA Me) at the end of the pamphlet. I am currently still drawing my three posters and a simple backdrop for the background of the pamphlet.

So What have I specifically been doing recently?

Well I have been trying to improve my drawing skill and look of my book cover/posters. I have looked at several other YouTube video's for inspiration for my drawing, and I have been looking at different book covers suck as Game of Thrones, Percy Jackson and The Witcher book series.

One of the Ideas is a snowy scene that takes place in the prologue with a silver metallic border. Some of the youtube links to the videos I have seen are below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqQlw2v7JC0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McX4bPpE9GI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSW1uxnDwxs

Where did I get my inspiration for this.

I have always love Arthurian legends ever since I was a young kid, and that eventually mixed with one of my genre of Manga, high fantasy. When I was thinking of my creative writing in year 11 I thought about what I would enjoy writing, and the idea that Arthur had an heir 100 years later who would save the world. I had this idea since I was 15 so I wanted to re-create this now and finish a full book in the near future.

What do I want to accomplish

I want to try and set a step for me to try and get my book out into the world similar to how movies and trailers and books have online advertisements. I want to see if I can make people wonder and become intrigued with the new world that I have created. Using Trans-media I want to see how far I can go with my own will and capabilities before asking for help.

BVA503 Blog Eleven

 Semester 2 Blog Eleven

So today in class we ended up doing critiques for everyone, myself included. I was the first one to go, as mine could set the bar low for everyone else, which is kinda a nice. Following after everyone had finished all of our critiques and given feedback we went onto discord and filled out a form for our Think and Create projects. Afterwords we just worked on our projects and I did what I could. OI started doing some work on photoshop as a test drawing so I can improve my skill while watching a YouTube video.

BVA503 Blog Ten

 Semester 2 Blog Ten

So now I have finished with answering those questions from the previous blog, now its time to focus on my own projects questions.

Use the Vocabulary learnt from the reading to describe your own project?

The main premise and question for my project is how will I use Trans-media to promote my book series, 'Heir to the King'. I will be using more effective methods to complete this question by having a more focus on my personal opinion on the physical aspects rather than other people around me. Although I will be accepting criticism and proposed ideas to help my project move forward.

My project will consist of Three Poster designs which I will be getting votes and opinions on which do the general public prefer for the final outcome. I will also be showing and possibly handing out small pamphlets to give people a 'taste' of the first book and this will allow me to increase my popularity and identity within the community. Another way i could use trans-media is set up a website to expand the world and have the lore and snippets from the first book when completed.

BVA503 Blog Nine

 Semester 2 Blog Nine

SO today we started the class with some homework that I did not know we had, oops. After the discussion and debate over some sweets on offer, we got stuck into the class. The main things we are doing today is following some questions which will be as follows...

Define Effective Practice Research (Problem Based)

The main way we can define effective practice based research is attempting or solving a problem directly related to a certain subject. This require more of the practical mind so solve and it needs to be effective and quick to attempt to stop it. Jobs that prioritize these skills are Builders, Construction workers, programmers and Accountants.
e.g. Problem) There is a restriction on where I am able to get my information, and this has rendered my research so far by half.

Solution) Attempt to find similar sources that provide similar information so you are able to use some of the research found.

Define Evocative Practice Research (Practice-Led)

Evocative Practice Research is more common in our modern society because it sets you up with fictional problems as practice for future issues. This helps younger minds solve their problems with the greater outcome and will be better for jobs such as The Police Force, Army, Politicians and Medical Carers.

The main difference between the two is Effective focuses more on individual people whereas Evocative looks for people in society.

Investigating the Bat/Human Problem

Collaborative Project between Keith Armstrong, Natalie Jeremijenko, Leah Barclay and Tony Fry.

Solution for Coexistence between Aussie Fruit Bats and Humans.

Overviews how different tried Effective and Evocative Methods

They can see they creative industry needs to expand more.

Started with Effective Methods to solve the problem first, then Evocative Second

Quote Armstrong "To investigate ways in which the ecological relationships between humans and "co-dweller of our urban ecology" might be resolved".

Ideas Proposed

Effective: Urban Sanctuary for Fruit Bats (Botanic Gardens Xtension)

Evocative: The Views on how the public might be effected e.g. Diseases, mass population increase

Summary.

The primary issue in Sydney,Australia, was the mass increase of Fruit bats around the local and urban residential areas as well as the Sydney botanic gardens. The primary issue was due to this mass increase in the population of the bats, it would have been irritating and hazardous to the surrounding community and could be a larger issue for the future if kept unchecked. The underlying intent of the project was to produce a social/political appeal to the public to further protect bats and other "co-dwellers",

The main way they tried to go about this was using an effective method which was to notify the community about the Fruit bats. They also had the plan to build an enclosure or "Glorified Park" for the bats to say keep them contained and out of trouble.

but the result was far more evocative than initially intended due to the researchers instead choosing to single-handedly create a solution to the problem without community aid. This solution was also applied to the research problem in a manner which may be considered too broad, or as more of an artistic endeavor than a direct resolution to the proposed issue.

BVA503 Blog Eight

 Semester 2 Blog Eight

SO yeah, we watched a super cool movie call Batman: Ninja. throughout the movie I was impressed and inspired by the way they used a good mix of 2D animation and 3D animation which was quite cool and interesting. I also talked with my tutor for what I should do from here on out, as recently I have been pretty much confused if I am actually meant to be at course or not, so hopefully next week it will turn out ok. So far for my project I still have my basic idea of three posters and a pamphlet which I will focus more on in a later entry.

BVA503 Blog Seven

 Semester 2 Blog Seven

So pretty much for my poster and book cover designs I need to have some inspiration, so I was trying to think of what I can do. I went online and looked at some Ideas of what some popular and infamous book series covers look like for the fantasy genre and here I what I found. Overall they have a unusual feel to them, and have more of a darker tone which is what I want to try and represent in my own designs.

BVA503 Blog Six (AKA Proposal Feedback)

Semester 2 Blog Six

Today we started the class with choosing between 2 movies, cant remember the one we watched but it was weird. Alongside this we went over with our tutor for the class about our proposals and feedback and what we should do next. Overall I found out what I need to do next. I have changed from my initial idea due to the fact that I would rather complete something that I can do within the time given to me. My main question is how can I use trans-media to promote and market my book and/or book pamphlets. So I have a goal, not I need to plan it.

BVA506 Blog Five

Semester Two Blog Four/Five

So last week, I slept in and missed this class, so theoretical it should be blog 4 but oh well.

So today we did our presentations, Yay. Personally I think I could have improved on a few slides, like adding more in, but overall I think I did alright. My favorites were from Mihali, who is doing a classic one-pager comic, Jordan who is doing a lore-book and Rhys who is writing a manga. I like these ideas and projects as they get me excited about the finished product, and it makes me motivated to do more on my book.

Time, Money and Appealing Ideas

Concept
Whats the big idea you're exploring?
Do I have the skill and resolve to write a book and create a world that people can escape tool.

Context
Does it rely on where it is, or when it is, to set the scene?
Physically, no it does not matter where it is done, as it is a book, but within the story it can really only take place then and there.

Audience
Who is this for?
This project is more for me, as I would like to see what I am capable of.
Who is this aimed at?
Young teens to young Adults.

Aesthetics
How do I want my work to look?
I would like my book to look visually captivating , with a monochromatic style from black to dark blue

Theoretical Framework
Find an associative term to explain what your doing?
I am creating a world of Fantasy and Magic in Medieval Times.

Medium
What technology are you going to use?
I will be using three or four main programs on a computer or laptop. These are Microsoft Word, Google Documents, Grammarly and a book printing website which I still have to find.

Key Practitioners/Influences
My main inspirations for these books is Arthurian Legends from European History, but the idea or writing was greatly inspired by Rick Riordan.

Technique
Identify the skills I need to have?
Decent English Grammar, Spelling and creative Ideas.
Are any of these new, or do I need to refine any of them?
I definitely need to improve my grammar to make my book more linguistically appealing.

Methodology and Planning
How am I going to realize my idea?
Nose down, arse up and getting to work.
What planning and timing stages do I need too plan out?
I need to produce at least one chapter a week to meet the deadline, aswell as sent it out to thew book printing website to get it printed and sent.

Props
Do I need anything to use for the exhibition?
What I would need for the exhibition is a wall for the book poster, and I will need to bring a stand for my book aswell as the hand out copies. Plus a chair if I decide to do a set time reading over the first few chapters.

References
What ideas have I learnt from my literature review?
World building is a key aspect to creating a good book. With believable characters and a believable world and situations it can convince thew audience that this place could actually exist.

Overall I learnt some cool stuff in the class for my book, now to get onto writing it. Hopefully I will get the prologue and first few chapters in here soon, but we'll see.

BVA503 Blog Two

Semester 2 Blog Two

So today we are doing our presentations, and the unintelligent being that I am, I went first. As you can see in the Presentation post, I am writing my book, Heir to the King, or the first one anyways which I will call Awakening. My Presentation went well, but questions have raised about me finishing in time, but we'll see. Any who, had fun and am interested in several of the other projects within the class, so super hyped for this semester. For my plan, I need to create a concept for the book cover, a poster and possibly some character art, but we'll see.

BVA503 Blog One

Semester 2 Blog One

Today we started off going over the assessment for this term, the proposal, the project and documentation. I already know that this semester I will need to keep up to date with blogs. So yeah, fun stuff. We talked about the way we could documentation next year like instagram, vlogging and other stuff. Then we went over the first assessment, which is the proposal, and that is when we suggest our project idea. Now I need to think about what I want to do, but that is a future Seth problem. My current idea's for this assessment is either my book, Heir to the King, or a game trailer for Undeath.
